THE SERRANOVA'S CASTLE
The castle of Serranova was built enclosing an older nucleus dating back to the year 1350 by wish of the Viceroy D. Parafan De Ribera, who ordered the universities to build watch towers along the coast.
The entrance was made possible by lowering a drawbridge, thus connecting the tower with a staircase attached to an additional building on the surrounding walls.
The hall is marked with frescoes on its domical vaults representing personages of the 17th century.
The tower has lately undergone several modifications, a new part has been annexed to the south front, its first floor being refined by a gallery with round-headed arches and encosing a room connected with the hall in the tower.
Ivy and vines cover the castles of Carovigno and San Vito, both owned by the family Dentice, thus blending old and new; only a detailed inspection enable to make out the structures of the ancient core of the fortification.
